Since she was hired to play a lawyer who seemed to be very professional and buttoned up, Portia was surprised to find her character stripping down and begging her boss to sleep with her within a few episodes."Now this happens on TV—you don't really have control over where your character is heading," she says."It wasn't that I was proud of it, but it was certainly a recognition for my self-control,” says Portia.“I definitely had some amazing willpower to get down to 82 pounds, and that's what I was holding on to.
Portia says when she was younger and began developing feelings for her close girlfriends, she knew there was something different about her.
At rock bottom, Portia starved herself to 82 pounds.
Now, Portia is coming forward about it all in her new book, Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain.
"I was constantly looking for external validation," she says. She says the scene sent her into a downward spiral.
After her first season on Ally Mc Beal, Portia was offered another big opportunity: She was going to be the face of L'Oreal.
Portia says she went on her first diet when she was 12 years old.
